How to play Texas Hold'em Poker - compliments of Wild Jack Poker Room

Texas Hold'em is a game for those who are quick at the draw. The game can have anywhere from two to ten players and consists of four rounds of betting. Each player is dealt two cards, which they use in conjunction with the five communal cards; players then take any five cards to make up their best hand. The objective is simple - finish with the best hand and win the pot!

How to play Texas Hold'em Poker

  • The player to the immediate left of the dealer posts the small blind bet. The next player on the left places the big blind bet. Please note that the dealer moves to a new position after each game
  • Each player receives two pocket cards.
  • In the first round, the player to the left of the big blind poster plays first. This player is given the following options:
    • Fold
    • Bet
    • Raise
In the first round, players are limited to one bet and three raises each. Players are not permitted to check, as blinds are bets and not antes.
  • In the second round, three community cards are dealt. This is known as the flop. In the ensuing betting round, players can:
    • Check
    • Fold
    • Call
    • Raise
  • In the third round, a fourth community card is dealt. This is known as the turn. A round of betting follows the turn.
  • In the fourth round, the final community card is dealt, bringing the total to five. This card is known as the River Card. This is followed by the final round of betting. The remaining players use their two pocket cards (the cards that are facedown on the table) and the five community cards to create the best possible five-card hand. The winner gets the pot. If two or more players have the same hand, they will split the pot equally.
